Hope In The Daydream

November 13, 2022 by Eva 2 Comments

Do you ever get so deep in thought that you forget why you started thinking in the first place? Sometimes my daydreams take me to faraway lands where my life is so different from where it currently is. Truth is, I am a natural storyteller. I am able to create and run with a story pretty easily with just a small prompt or passing thought. I used to love those prompt writing tests in school because I knew I would do well no matter what the topic was. So, you can imagine how detail my daydreams are when I allow them to run. And boy do I let them run.

Overcoming Transformation Shame

March 12, 2021 by Eva 6 Comments

Being open and vulnerable is not something that comes natural to me. There are very few people who know my accomplishments and far less who know my deepest struggles. I have been a master at hiding my pain. I’ve always wanted  people to see the blessings rather than the struggles. But there I was in my kitchen, pealing potatoes for dinner when I felt an overwhelming feeling in the pit of my stomach. I had to write.

Cilantro Paste. Easy Homemade and Delicious!

January 14, 2020 by Eva 1 Comment

It never fails around this time of year that we have an abundance of cilantro going at the homestead. We use it as much as we can and give some away to neighbors but when there is just too much for our family to consume I refuse to just let it go bad! Last year I came up with the idea of turning our cilantro abundance into something our family can enjoy for a long time. And it is delicious!

10 Tips for Reducing the Cost of Raising Chickens

May 6, 2019 by Eva 21 Comments

It is said that getting your first flock of backyard chickens is the “gateway-drug” more farm animals. That was definitely true for us! We moved to our property on a Wednesday. We hadn’t even unpack everything when I stopped at a local feed shop to get dog food and “accidentally” came home with 15 baby chicks. With no prior knowledge of how to raise chickens, we went to work fast building a coop and reading a lot of articles on Pinterest. Through much trial and error, I think I have this backyard chicken thing down. One thing I noticed quickly is that the cost of raising chicken can really add up if you let it! That is why I have complied a list of tips for reducing the cost of raising chickens.

The Power in Your Own Two Hands

January 29, 2019 by Eva 6 Comments

There are some seasons in our lives when we go through hard times. During the storm, we find it hard to understand “the why’s” of it all and what could possibly be the reason for the lesson. It is not until we get to the other side of that storm that we realize what God was trying to tell us. Then there are times that in a blink of an eye, one small, seemingly insignificant thing turns into a big life lesson. It could be a song on the radio or a over-heard conversation by the person standing behind you in the grocery store check-out line. No matter the reasons or how they happen, your outlook on life can be changed in an instant by even the smallest, brief moments in our lives. These are the moments that cause us to stop and think of the power in your own two hands. This is exactly what happened to me on a regular, nothing special, Tuesday morning.

The Day My Husband Bought a Motorcycle

December 7, 2018 by Eva 59 Comments

I was 26 years old when I met my husband. I was working as an HR Generalist for a aerospace manufacturing company. At the time the company was in the process of moving into a new, much larger facility, so we decided to do a job fair. I was sitting at a table in the lobby handing folks applications when I felt a tap on my shoulder.

The Best Homemade Bread Recipe

October 24, 2018 by Eva 9 Comments

I honestly can’t think of a better aroma than fresh baked, homemade bread. Once you have tasted a good homemade bread, it is hard to go back to store bought bread. Most people don’t make their own bread because they think it takes all day or is just difficult to do. I must admit that I was also one of those people. It is just easier to pick bread from the store and be done with it. While that might be true, I will wholeheartedly tell you that your taste buds are missing out!

Adventures in Asheville

October 5, 2018 by Eva Leave a Comment

When you have a farm, getting off the homestead requires careful planning. Before we purchase our tickets and book our hotels, we need to schedule for someone to care for all of our 30+ animals while we are gone. This can be quite a task because how many people you know get excited about being outside in the Florida heat to fill up food ans water barrels? I am lucky enough to have amazing parents who see our farm as a mini-getaway from their normal every day life. They were gracious enough to offer to care for the animals while we took our first family vacation in years!

On this adventure we decided to head up to the mountains to the Asheville area in North Carolina. Let me tell you, we had a BLAST! This was our first time in Asheville so I wanted to fill you in on some great activities we did and my overall impression of the city. While there are an overwhelming amount of things to do in Asheville, I will focus on my top 4 favorite destinations we visited during our stay.
